Most of Germany is affected by a seasonal temperate climate, which is dominated by humid westerly winds. The climate is temperate due to the oceanic, North Atlantic current, which is a northern extension of the Gulf Stream. These warm waters affect areas bordering the North Sea, including the area along the Rhine, which flows into the North Sea. Thus, in the northwest and north of the country, the climate is oceanic, with precipitation throughout the year with a maximum in the summer.
